9c94244604147ecf4d165c84a35afdbf The Coffee Carry Prototype

I’m still working through this thing, but my ongoing attempts to design an easy coffee carry syetm for the bike continue. The parameters for this design are:
- must move from bike to bike
- carries coffee cups, but does not rely on use of carafes/tumblers, as some recipients just want coffee cups, not the smaller reservoir of the tumblers, which are technically smalls
- must stay upright by it’s own self so I’m not holding it with my thumbs
- must reasonably prevent unnecessary hotsplash (for additional hotsplash, see Lung’s Jalisco vacation review)
- must carry two (2) US drinks
- must be custom

I’ve gone through some iterations, which you have seen in other posts. This current scheme is a prototype of fusing two tumblers that were selected for having wide L-shaped carry handles.. spaced just so and bonded below, such that they hook over the bars, lean on front cabling just enough to stay erect (too much and they interfere with braking or bounce, not enough and they swing down per gravity rules). One earlier version of this utilized a headlight clamp for the handlebars, which would allow for a rigid grip and keep them from moving. However, the fail there was threefold: it was more cumbersome to move the clamp between bikes, the connection was too rigid (here, if I have to hit a bump, I can ease the assembly with a thumb to soften the blow) and it wasn’t custom enough.

The prototype has used cardboard and packing tape to hold the tumblers together at the right distance, for testing. Next up is the more permanent assembly which will involve hose clamps as is my wont, and potentially a vase. Or a Slim Jim carrier.
