Random Lopery!

thirdraildesignlab posted a photo:	The original aesthetic inspiration for this build. The off-white color matches the MINI, our last MINI, and the Karmann Ghia before it. Ultimately, I let go of the tomato red because my wife pointed out it would look wonk next to all the honey leather. So the bike is just the off-white. This fixed gear build features a custom-installed S&S coupler system, for maximum travel capabilities.Read the build logs and more on the Team Lope Tyre Clubbe site:www.teamlopetyreclubbe.com

2009 02 22 1446 Bike Build Process Log: Villain Yes Brake

I strung the brake cable, adjusted it, worked it, slapped it up/flipped it/rubbed it down, ohnoeds it, and the bike is officially street safe, though not necessarily it’s rider.

Interestingly, final weigh-in is 17.4 pounds. That’s a hard number to qualify, out of context. In comparison, this bike, as a road racer for CSC-Tiscali in the Tour de France, was a ‘claimed’ 18.1 pounds with full Dura Ace. Now, on the one hand, it’s nice to know i’m not heavier than the bikes’ source weight as a pro racer. On the other, you’d kind of imagine the bike to be lighter than a road bike with full groupo, given that it doesn’t have a rear brake, derailleur or cassette. But on the other, other, and I like to call it, THIRD hand, that’s a top of the line Dura Ace groupo, with ultralight carbon pedals, bars, and needle of a a seat, whereas my fixie uses alloy cranks, allow bottom bracket, alloy brake, cromo pedals and an aluminum drop bar. I have no idea what my road bike currently weight (also a KG 381 Team) but hey, heavier than this also! This does prove that all that gram counting can really make a difference, as other than the frame, fork and post, I used conventional fixed-gear parts which are far heavier than the carbon and titanium splendor available for today’s road bikes (the 09 Look 595 fully built up for the tour with the best components I could find tops out at 15.9 pounds)

Far more importantly, I lost 4 pounds this week, so!

I can’t wait to ride this, as soon as the deluge ends!
