These photos document my Carpetbagger project, a fixed-gear build fitted with S&S Couplers to be used as a travel bike. The general details of the build sheet are:1. So, after Lung and I worked on setting up the basics of the bikeBasement, we took some time to bang out some progress on the Ghostal project, specifically with regards to activities involving tools he owns that i don’t. When our garages were adjacent, we started buying tools separately and sharing. Now we’re shuttling them back and forth like an inexplicable task on some mid-season episode of 24. In this case, he had his scratch-built headset press, which we used, and his star nut setter, which we didn’t.

Getting the cups on was pretty easy, with the proper tool. I’ve tried such things before with the wood block and mallet method, and that’s some dodgy business right there. With Lung’s tool, you just align them visually, hold one nut tight (!) and wrench the other, then adjust the facing of the washer and continue, back and forth, until it’s tight. Man, this sounds like the box blurb of the Grand Theft Anal DVD. Anyway, they were going in a little wonk but we got it straightened out. All in all, after 6 hours of hauling crap non-stop, and then furious consumption of pizza, it was a great cap to a productive day. I managed to scrape the frame at the downtube, but otherwise, no complications. Popped the steerer tube in there and we were done for the day, as Lung had to get on the road, and I had dhaddy business to attend to…
