if you’re a BMXer, or one of the hacks that try BMX tricks on fixed-gears (whoops, did i just say that?), one of these chains might be for you.

neither has much information about it yet, as both are in prototype phase, but the two varieties that are being tested as we speak are the DK GRIND CHAIN (first pic, on a white bike) and the KMC 1710 GRIND CHAIN (second pic, on a black bike).

each chain is a half-link chain (which has pretty much become standard equipment for BMXers, and which i absolutely love, even though i don’t use one anymore), and each one has basically the same technology — a plate covering the top opening of each (half) link. i think the KMC is probably a better design because as you can see, the grind plates are split down the middle. i’m thinking that in theory, this is so the constant abuse doesn’t deform the side plates of the chain. the grind plates, in other words, can get bent and broken without transferring stresses to the side plates, which looks like would happen on the DK version. however, if you’re grinding on a regular chain to begin with, either one of these is gonna be a SERIOUS improvement to your life.

finally, not only are these a SUPER subtle and awesome expansion of your bike’s ability to crush the streetscape without breaking, they just look mean as fuck.

i’m anxious to hear the outcome of the testing phases of both of these…
